About the movie: A Poet (Spanish: Un poeta) is a 2025 tragicomedy film written, co-produced and directed by Simón Mesa Soto. An international co-production between Colombia, Germany and Sweden, the film stars Ubeimar Rios, Rebeca Andrade, Guillermo Cardona, Allison Correa, Margarita Soto and Humberto Restrepo. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2025, where it won the section’s Jury Prize. It was theatrically released in Colombia on 28 August 2025 by OTH. It was selected as the Colombian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Un poeta es una película colombo-alemana-sueca de 2025, escrita, coproducida y dirigida por Simón Mesa Soto. El director de casting fue John Bedoya. La obra es una comedia dramática. Está protagonizada por Ubeimar Ríos, Rebeca Andrade, Guillermo Cardona, Allison Correa, Margarita Soto y Humberto Restrepo. La película cuenta con un grupo heterogéneo de actores; por un lado, actores con formación y experiencia, y por otro, un grupo que nunca había estado frente a una cámara cinematográfica o televisiva. La película fue filmada y ambientada en Medellín; y rodada en 16 mm. Se trata de un filme que narra la historia de Óscar Restrepo, un poeta fracasado y deprimido obsesionado por la obra de José Asunción Silva. Tuvo su estreno mundial en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Cannes de 2025, el 19 de mayo de 2025 y en Colombia el 28 de agosto del mismo año.
