Flower Shop
Saturday, September 12, 2026 · 7:00 PM at East Side Performing Arts.
Ventana Ballet & Austin Camerata’s Flower Shop invites you to step inside where the flowers aren't quite what they seem, and a secret red door at the back sparks your curiosity. This September, the dancers of Ventana Ballet & the live musicians of Austin Camerata invite you to an intimate evening of dance, strings, & piano - performed just feet away from you at East Side Performing Arts in Austin. Witness the world premiere of Flower Shop, a brand-new ballet that blossoms to an original piano quartet written by American composer Michael Alec Rose. It’s a story that starts in a flower shop - and goes somewhere you won't expect. A secret speakeasy lies behind the red door at the back of the shop. Ballet & live music, up-close, not pretentious. Six nights only, running September 10-12 and 17-19. A full bar by Tito's Handmade Vodka in a cocktail lounge where guests can meet the artists, including the composer, after the show. “It’s a wonderful honor to play Michael’s music again. We last played his music with Ventana Ballet for our premiere of BEAUTIFUL WORLD in 2022 at KMFA, and it was an exhilarating experience for artists and audience alike,” shared Austin Camerata’s Artistic Director, Daniel Kopp. Flower Shop is about simplicity, and it’s about gratitude. In a world brimming with relentless busyness, chronic stress, and overstimulation, the pressure is always on. At the same time, the world is slow and thoughtful - full of interconnected wonders, astonishingly beautiful. That rose that blooms in the neighbor’s garden. That pale pink 6:37pm sky. Those bluebonnets that spring up by the side of the highway. That buzz of the bee flying by for its afternoon pollination run. It’s all so fleeting. Slow down. Take a deep breath. Be still for just a moment. Flower Shop is simple - it’s ars gratia artis - a joyful occasion for music, dance, and storytelling. It's also a reminder: take time to smell the roses. Flower Shop invites its audiences to see and love and learn all the flowers, both inside the Flower Shop, and outside, in the beautiful world. Time passes so quickly. Flowers bear witness to this truth better than anything. Ventana Ballet Director, AJ Garcia-Rameau shared, “We are extremely excited to share this new work, inviting the audience to step inside a flower shop where the flowers aren't quite what they seem. It will be an intimate evening of contemporary ballet, live strings, and piano - performed just feet away from our guests at the brand-new black-box theater space at East Side Performing Arts in East Austin.” THE EVENING: 6:15pm – Doors & Cocktail Lounge Open | 7:00pm – Performance (15-minute intermission) | 9:00pm – Post-Show Reception in the Cocktail Lounge ONLY 6 SHOWS!
