The University of Austin’s Innovation Labs help students turn ambitious ideas into inventions and startups, teaching them to prototype and bring new products to market. In this workshop, the labs’ Executive Director, Phil Greenwald, will guide you through your own introduction to invention: creating a working face recognition camera. You’ll get hands-on experience with a small microcomputer, a camera, and AI coding tools. You’ll learn how a computer can detect a face, recognize who it belongs to, and respond when it sees someone it knows. We’ll build the system step by step, with AI helping write the code along the way. No programming, electronics, or technical experience is required. Please note: Adding this session to your agenda does not guarantee admission. Admission will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis until room capacity is reached. Austin Tech Week session. Check the official listing for badge, capacity, and any separate RSVP requirements.
